Preston Hornets FC Silver Medal

A nice piece of English football memorabilia. Preston Hornets were an early association football club. An internet search records that they once lost to Arsenal 5-0 on Christmas Day in 1889. Merry Christmas indeed.. The medal isnt hallmarked but looks and feels like sterling silver. The face is engraved Preston Hornets FC. The reverse has the medal recipients name 'A E Poole', the date 1889 along with what is presumably the venue of Calvert's Mill. Looks like the Hornets were the runners up in this medal competition. Calvert's Mill was a textile mill in Halifax, West Yorkshire. Length 4.8cm.
