Inlaid British Military Gift Box - Egypt 1945
Beautiful inliad wooden box dated Egypt 1945 with an interesting provenance. The sticker inside has reference to Lady Killearn and the Christmas Stocking Fund. Lady Killearn was the wife of the British Ambassador (Sir Miles Wedderburn Lampson) to Egypt during WW2 and a celebrated socialite. You wanted to be invited to her parties by all accounts.
Hand written below is Helmiah Hosp, Cairo. Helmiah Hospital was a British Military Hospital in Cairo during WW2.
